Poster Series
The objective of this project was to create three posters that represent the work of three artists. Each poster represents the work of Patti Smith, JJJJJerome Ellis, and Charmaine Lee using the prompt of "Unbound Echoes: Exploring Poetic Soundscapes." This meant that their poetry is to be interpreted through imagery, color harmony, and typography.
About The Artists
JJJJJermone Ellis
JJJJJermone Ellis reflects him life onto his work. He gets his name from his stutter, as it is one of the hardest words for him to say. He uses his stutter it enhance his writing on justice, disability, and historical experience.
Charmaine Lee
Charmaine Lee uses her voice as an instrument. She create guttural sounds from the lungs as nonmusical noises emerge from her. She whistles or whispers to perform, and her work can never be repeated.
Patti Smith
Patti Smith is a guitarist, poet, fine artist, and author. She is connected to punk rock as she used to be in a band name Patti Smith Group. A lot of her work, especially poems, are a reflection on her life, loss, and the power that art hold for her.
WorkShop
During the workshop I manipulated different letterforms using different objects, scanned images, and camera angles. This skewed the words to create original work to later use for the posters.
Sketches
Experimenting with different layouts of where typography, workshop elements, and textures should be placed.
Iterations
Putting workshop letterforms into photoshop and changing the color hues to coordinate with each artist.
Final Posters
In order to correctly connect Patti Smith, JJJJJerome Ellis, and Charmaine Lee to their background I used repetition and bold colors. Layering multiple scanned images assisted in creating varying textures and cohesive imagery throughout all three posters. This connects to each artist's unconventional, disruptive, and imperfect way of performing.
